Jill Ruzbacky
Social Justice Officer
Jill started as a Social Justice Officer in April 2008.
Jill grew up in the (then) Synod of Tasmania, and worked for 2 years under the Order of St. Stephen in the Youth Unit, and was the only Tasmanian to be part of the UCA’s Interns in Mission Program working in the Philippines for the International Campaign to End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism (ECPAT).
Jill also worked overseas as part of the Australian Volunteers Program in the Southern Philippines, and has lead several Assembly-wide short-term exposure trips (STETs) working alongside the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP). She is passionate about the Philippines and working alongside UCCP in their continual struggle for justice, peace and human rights. She also has a passionate dislike for the unethical activities of the food giant Nestle.
Before joining JIM, Jill worked for 6 years in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne as Community Development Worker in a community information & support centre, in a support and advocacy role working with newly arrived migrants, refugees & asylum seekers and the general Whittlesea community.
Jill is working on the areas of:
- International Mission (supporting People in Mission and work with partner churches)
- Asylum seekers and refugees
- Prison Reform in Victoria
- Overseas poverty (Micah Challenge and Make Poverty History Projects);
- Combating the unethical marketing of infant formula; and
