Corruption
FROM CORRUPTION TO GOOD GOVERNANCE REPORT
The report acknowledges that the effort to reduce poverty globally requires tackling corruption, but sees corruption as an issue that must be addressed by both developed and developing countries.
The report finds that while developed countries are part of the battle against
corruption globally, some facilitate, reward and benefit from corruption in
developing countries in a number of ways. The report assesses Australia’s
performance in tackling global corruption, finding many commendable efforts
being made through the Attorney General’s Department, the Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade, AusAID, Treasury, the Australian Tax Office and AUSTRAC
under both the previous Federal Government and under the current Government.
However, the report identifies a few black spots in Australia’s efforts to combat
global corruption and areas where greater effort is urgently needed.
The report will be used to help inform the wider community about the efforts
being made to tackle corruption globally, that assists in making overseas aid
more effective, as well as what additional efforts need to be made.
