Celebrating Giving

By celebrating generous giving, we affirm generous acts of sharing that occur within the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania. We should certainly celebrate large financial contributions which people, groups or congregations make to mission activities. ‘Large’ can be one definition of ‘generous.’ But, more importantly we should recognise the missional intent, the creativity and the effort behind particular acts of giving as well.

A community may come together, learn about an issue, offer their time to the issue, develop a fun and engaging way to support the resolution of the issue financially – They may do this even though they have little financial wealth of themselves. In the end, the financial contribution may be small. But isn’t the generosity expressed in their actions worth celebrating?

We think it is. We are not promoting a ‘giving competition.’ As Jesus looked to the widow who gave her two mites, we are looking to share examples of generous giving as an inspiration to us all.

If you'd like help to think of creative ways to celebrate generosity in your place (Generous Giving Dinners, Letters of Recognition, Mission Tours) get in contact with us.
