SUMMARY:Reflective Practice for Intercultural Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the cultures of those we serve requires more than words and good intentions. \nThe journey towards cultural competence requires the willingness to learn from ones experiences and act. \nThere is much that Ministry leaders need to learn about those whom we serve. Understanding the culture and history of the people especially of those who do not belong to your culture is essential to minister to them. One of the most valuable skills we can have is cultural competence-the ability to work across cultures in a way that acknowledges and respects the culture of the person being served. People bring with them both their theologically formed faith and their culturally formed faith practices and piety. \nThis workshop seeks to offer resources in reflective practice for those wanting to minister cross culturally and inter culturally. \n  \nTo register\, click here \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Talking theologically about... preaching
DESCRIPTION:The idea of this gathering emerged from some informal musings amongst UCA ministers about expanding the opportunities for theological conversations. It is hoped that this will be the first of several similar events. \nOn this occasion\, the theme will be preaching\, with conversation-starter presentations from Rev Dr Craig Thompson and Rev Assoc Prof Robyn Whitaker. \nBeginning with the observation\, attributed to Stravinski\, that “Vivaldi did not write 400 concertos; he wrote once concerto 400 times\,” Craig will explore whether there is something constant about preaching when everything else is changing. \nWith reference to the legacy of Albrecht Dürer’s Apocalypse woodcuts on the reception of the book of Revelation\, Robyn will address how preaching engages popular understandings of biblical texts. \n  \nTo register\, click here

SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Transitional Ministry\, part 2: The Work of the Congregation
DESCRIPTION:This year FTM C is being delivered in a combination of online and in person formats. You must participate in all 4 days to record satisfactory attendance: \n  \n\nAugust 9th – 9.30-4.30pm – online\nAugust 16th – 9.30-4.30pm – online\nAugust 23rd – 9.30-5pm; 6.30-8.30pm\, August 24th – 9.30-4.30pm – in person at the Centre for Theology and Ministry.\n\n  \nFundamentals of Transitional Ministry: The Work of the Congregation (FTM-C) is the second part of FTM training; it builds upon the work begun in Fundamentals of Transitional Ministry: The Work of the Leader (FTM-L). You need to have completed FTM –L in order to enrol in FTM-C. Satisfactory completion of FTM – C qualifies the participant as an Intentional Interim Minister. Because the role of IIM is extremely demanding\, you will need a formal recommendation from your presbytery\, or appropriate synod staff or committee chairperson to enrol (Referee Form can be found below with the Application Form). \n  \nFTM – C is a four day program designed to provide information and experiences that will be helpful to people who plan to function in a congregational leadership role especially during a time of clerical transition or other major period of upheaval- like a global pandemic\, or a radically new mission opportunity. In FTM C you will identify tools for use in congregations that will empower them to negotiate transition times with greater patience\, wisdom and hope. \n  \nSatisfactory completion of FTM-C involves a supervised project. Given that the course content is useful for anyone in ministry\, you may enrol and not participate in the assessment/fieldwork component. However\, to be an accredited Intentional Interim Minister you need to complete the more formal application process\, assessment and fieldwork. \n  \nLink to course application form: \nhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1fjsf3AMEpt_8vta0VntdNnOc1ttzZcDprujDfjpN79o/edit# \nCost: \n$220 – Early bird (available until July 9th) \n$250 – General (after July 9th) \n  \nRegistrations close on July 27\, 2022 \n  \nLimited accommodation is available onsite at Maclean House. SUMMARY:Preaching as story
DESCRIPTION:Preachers as Midwives of the Story \n  \nStory has its own way of bringing to life God’s work within community and ourselves. A story without words can speak deeper than a story with words. We don’t just observe or hear a story\, we are always receivers of story. And sometimes we are the storyteller. . . . .even when we are preaching. In this workshop\, participants are invited to come into story and possibility. \nDenise best describes herself as a Mother\, a Minister and a Photographer and sometimes all three at once. Drawing on deep listening to the world and creation\, sharing its story through images\, story\, and relationship\, Denise allows room for the other to find their point of connection with God. Once a nurse herself\, Denise invites people to think about how they ‘midwife’ their contribution to God’s big story at work in the world. \n  \nPresenter: Denise Savage \nWhen: Wednesday June 1\, 2022 7 – 9pm \nWhere: Online \nCost: $10 \n  \nTo register\, click here \n  \nFor more information\, please contact Mel Perkins mel.perkins@victas.uca.org.au \n
