SUMMARY:The Living People of God: Local\, Global and Mission
DESCRIPTION:Come and learn a lot more about the world church – especially if your congregation/community is cross-cultural. How do the challenges and joys of local church life compare with those in Asia and Africa? \nThis unit is a great opportunity to explore the radically diverse ways the Body of Christ expresses herself. \nAs part of this unit\, we look at the character and history of minority ancient Christian communities\, the 20th century emergence of churches in the global south\, and the post-Christendom realities faced by churches in lands marked by “Western culture”. We also explore the roots of the church in the ministry of risen Jesus Christ and the sending of the Spirit. Attention will be given to the classical marks of the church as well as to the particular marks noted by the Reformers. \nConsider enrolling (as a full or audit) student with a colleague or two and then forming a Peer Learning Group to reflect on your learnings in the light of ministry practice. There are Continuing Education grants to assist with auditing costs and to support a Peer Learning Group. \nFor more Peer Learning Group information\, contact Fran Barber at RevFran.Barber@victas.uca.org.au \nTo enrol\, contact Erlinda Loverseed\, Registrar of Pilgrim Theological College on (03) 9340 8892 or at erlinda.loverseed@pilgrim.edu.au \nThis unit runs every Tuesday morning of Semester One. \nTo download the unit flyer\, click here.

SUMMARY:Generate 2020
DESCRIPTION:Generate 2020 \n– An Intergenerational Resource Writing Workshop \nThe Why \nWhilst many people are doing great intergenerational stuff in their local contexts\, there is a dearth of intentionally intergenerational resources being made available for wider distribution. Hence\, this initiative to bring together people interested in addressing this gaping need. \nThe Vision \nA group of creative people gathered in the same space to work on the intergenerational projects that they are interested in. A creative an environment that fosters collaboration\, facilitates helpful feedback and actually leads to intergenerational resources that can be disseminated widely. \nThe Practicalities \nThe Workshop will be taking place at the Centre for Theology and Ministry (29 College Cres\, Parkville) from 10am to 4pm each day (February 28\, 29). Lunches\, morning teas and afternoon teas will be provided\, hence a nominal cost of $40 for the two days (though\, obviously\, people will need to pay for/arrange their own accommodation and other meals). \nThe Hope \nThat the shape of the event will be being significantly determined by the actual participants. That rather than coming with an expectation of input\, participants will be focused on the potential for output. That this will be the first of a series of such events. \nFor more information or to register please visit: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/generate-2020-tickets-93782707603

SUMMARY:**CANCELLED: Northey Lecture: “Prophet of God\, Son of God? Jesus in Islam and Christianity.”
DESCRIPTION:Both Christians and Muslims honour and revere Jesus\, but the two faiths differ on the status they give to him. For Christians Jesus is the Son of God. For Muslims he is a revered prophet. Nevertheless\, can Christians and Muslims still learn from each other about Jesus? This is a topic to be explored in the upcoming Northey Lecture jointly hosted by Pilgrim Theological College and Trinity College Theological School. The lecturer is Dr. Joshua Ralston\, a specialist in Christian-Muslim relations at the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh. \nThis event is free\, but for organisational purposes please RSVP here. \nFurther details: 9340 8800\, info@ctm.uca.edu.au or 03 9348 7527\, events@trinity.unimelb.edu.au. \nTo download the event flyer\, click here. \n**UPDATE: Due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions\, Dr. Ralston is now not coming to Australia. He has indicated that he hopes to reschedule his visit to Australia later in the year. If that occurs\, it is hoped that this lecture can also be rescheduled. If so\, details will be provided in due course.

SUMMARY:Inclusive workshop - enabling cultural gifts
DESCRIPTION:This workshop organised in partnership with the Port Philip West Presbytery will explore where and how we can enable cultural gifts in our communities of faith to make worship meaningful and fuller \nDue to the Covid-19 pandemic the Church is exploring new ways of being God’s life-giving community. As enablers of mission and ministry\, lay leaders and ministers are discovering gifts in their community previously hidden\, and are developing new ways of worshipping\, witnessing and serving. \nUnexpected\, difficult situations nudge us to seek resources beyond our normal boundaries; to learn from one another\, and from those who might have lived through something similar. They also can prod us to look for hidden and untapped gifts from within. \nThis workshop will explore where and how we can find those hidden treasures in our midst and outside to make worship joyful\, meaningful and fuller by engaging with the cultural opportunities and gifts in our congregations and communities. \nThe workshop will be offered over two days with 2 weeks apart; Wednesday 2nd September 2020 – 9.30am – 1pm and Wednesday 16th September 2020 – 10am -12.30pm. \nThe first day will be presentations\, discussions and explorations. Participants will be given tools to craft an intercultural worship for their congregation to offer in one or both of the following Sundays. \nThe second day participants will bring experience and feedback from the worship they have offered to share\, discuss and explore further resources. \nEach ministry leader is encouraged to bring one or more lay leaders from their congregation. \n **Due to the present pandemic\, the workshop will be offered via Zoom. The program and Zoom link will be sent to participants on registration. \nDates: 2nd September and 16th September 2020 \nTicket: $25 (both days) \n*Ticket cost includes workshop access for both days and materials \nTo register: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/inclusive-workshop-enabling-cultural-gifts-tickets-115150391922 \nContacts: \nDevanandan Anandarajan – 0414721015 (devanandan.anandarajan@victas.uca.org.au) \nLinley Liersch – 0408169882 (linley.liersch@ppw.victas.uca.org.au)
