Children & Families, Youth & Young Adults

Children and their families, youth and young adults have a crucial place in our church. They teach us about God and living authentic Christian lives, while we learn together what it means to be a Christian Community. We are constantly seeking to hear the voice of younger generations in all parts of our church’s life.

Children & Families

We work with presbyteries, congregations, leadership teams and individuals – including ministers and pastors – to develop, resource and support effective ministry with children and their families.

We do this by providing consultancy, advocacy, resourcing and training, with a particular focus on developing an intergenerational culture.

We have a wide range of useful material, including resources for intergenerational ministry, general children and families ministry, Messy Church and coming events.

We resource a Children and Families Ministry facebook page that is usually posted to daily.

We have more information, including Upcoming Events and the Graduate Certificate in Children and Families Ministry, available here.

We maintain a resource of ideas for Special Days and Seasons (including Advent, Lent, Pentecost and much more) that you can access here.

We provide a Monthly Children and Families Ministry Update that contains resources articles and useful links. You can download the current and previous updates here.

For more information, including subscribing to our free monthly e-Update, contact Chris Barnett (Intergenerational Ministry – Children and Families) via chris.barnett@victas.uca.org.au or (03) 9340 8806.

Youth

UCA Youth partners with churches to develop vibrant communities that assist young people form and develop their faith so as to have a positive impact on their community and beyond.

We do this by consulting, advocating, resourcing and training leaders, congregations, presbyteries and the Church. Our focus is how best to connect, encourage, equip and learn from young people (ages 12-19) who live a life following Jesus.

Visit our Youth resources page and learn about coming events, training materials, reflections and more to assist your local ministry.

UCA Youth is based at the Centre for Theology & Ministry in Parkville, but we are regularly on the road travelling across the Synod.

Young Adults

Our Young Adults unit engages with twentysomethings to explore their identity and calling and, in doing so, realise their potential.

We do this in three ways:

  1. Developing a Christian identity. Helping people aged 20-30 form their identity based on the Gospel and on the Uniting Church’s values.
  2. Educating and working for justice. Providing educational and service opportunities to practice the gospel values of justice and peace and to care for the less fortunate.
  3. Developing leaders for now and the future. We invite, train, support and mentor young adults to be leaders in society and church life.
