School’s in for discipleship

We’re excited for the possibility that School of Discipleship is coming to Melbourne for 2027; however, we are probably more excited to find 20 young adults across Victoria and Tasmania who are keen to come with us to School of Discipleship in NSW this June.

So, what is School of Discipleship?

School of Discipleship is about creating space for young adults to gather, build meaningful community, and explore what it looks like to follow Jesus in the realities of everyday life. The conference brings together students, leaders and people from a range of life stages to learn, worship, ask questions and grow together in discipleship.

Rev Adrian Sukumar-White, who helps coordinate School of Discipleship in NSW, describes it this way:

“School of Discipleship is an annual conference that has been running for over 20 years. With an intentional focus on university students, it brings together a whole range of people from different life stages to build community and explore what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. We’re excited that in 2026 we’re returning to a live-in format at the Tops Conference Centre in Stanwell Tops, where we’ll have the chance to connect more deeply across the weekend through intentional learning, worship, small groups, electives and shared community life.”

This year’s conference will run from June 26–28 and we’re hoping to take a group from Victoria and Tasmania to experience it together.

Tom Grayden, who is on team of people with a vision for a future Melbourne-based School of Discipleship, attended last year and was deeply impacted:

“I was blown away by the energy, faithfulness and passion of the SoD community, and gained so much from both the scholarly and experiential focus of the weekend. I can’t wait to share School of Discipleship with a group of Victorian and Tasmanian young people this year, and am incredibly excited about the possibility of bringing this conference to Melbourne in the future.”

Our hope is that this trip won’t just be a great weekend away, but a seed for something bigger — a growing community of young adults across Victoria and Tasmania who are serious about following Jesus, forming community, and shaping the future of the church.

To make this possible, we’re offering heavily subsidised places for those who are keen to come (think, full registration costs covered and a significant contribution to your travel costs to get to NSW).

If you’re a young adult, connected to the Uniting Church anywhere in Victoria or Tasmania, or are simply interested in exploring discipleship more deeply in community with others, we’d love you to join us.

Come with us in 2026 and help shape what discipleship could look like here in the years ahead.
