Podcast prompts conversations
The brand new ‘Agatha: Down the Road’ podcast is available now.
The podcast reflects episode by episode on the new Marvel Universe series Agatha all Along, which is available on Disney Plus.
The podcast is created by “Odd Rev” Rev Will Nicholas, Sydney-based UCA youth worker Somerset Drayton and Sandy Brodine from the Younger Generations team.
Odd Rev says of the podcast:
“The conversation delves into religious perspectives on life and death, the importance of mentorship, and the transition of power across generations.
“The hosts emphasise the complexity of human emotions and relationships, particularly in the context of loss and the quest for understanding existence beyond chronological time.
“In this conversation, the speakers delve into the metaphor of ghosts and churches, exploring themes of guidance, legacy, and the nature of good and evil.
They discuss the concept of redemption, questioning whether anyone is beyond redemption and how narratives have shifted over time to reflect more complex moral landscapes.
“The Agatha All Along podcast, aptly titled ‘Down The Road’ is a ride.
“From talking about witchcraft and the nature of magic to debates about redemption, this podcast is a phenomenal way to spiritually feed faith, especially in a way you wouldn’t expect.
“The three of us talked about so many different complex human experiences as well as our own faith journeys as they intersected with a great piece of fiction.
“What an awesome way to do it.”
Somerset Drayton also provided their take on the experience, saying:
“Being theologically informed by media in a way that transcends the traditional church context is a great way to look outside the realms of where faith can grow and where you can learn more.
“And, from an intergenerational perspective, it can help to make talking about Biblical concepts, stories and history very interesting to interact with.
“To be able to combine a love for fiction and the supernatural with theologically-based discussions, we all were able to learn so much more about each other and our beliefs.
“To challenge faith is to strengthen it, and apparently relating to an evil witch can help too.
“Such a great experience I’ll have to do again.”
