Fabriq: Stay in Touch
By Kelly N S Woods
Whether it is because we’re passionate about building communities, or we’re struggling to balance our work and life commitments, it is easy to overextend ourselves in our hyperconnected world.
And though it may seem counterintuitive to recommend another app to add to your home screens, I want to suggest to you Fabriq.
As someone involved in growing and forming communities, I’ve always felt the weight and privilege of walking alongside others, whether this is checking in during the week, following up on an event or important date, or being present with people as we journey through some of the hardest moments of life.
If I’m honest, amid caring for others, I’ve often found myself losing track of time or unintentionally letting some relationships slip through the cracks – not out of lack of care, but out of lack of structure.
Fabriq is a simple tool that helps you keep track of your relationships.
It is not another social media app but is designed for you to use as a point of reflection.
Inside the app you are encouraged to add the names of people you want to keep in connection with.
You assign these names to a specific “circle” and set how frequently you would like to connect in.
You’re then sent an alert when it’s time to reach out.
It also offers some other features, like a space to jot down notes or prayer requests, you can add birthday alerts or important dates to remember.
It also allows you to reflect on the quality and method – such as, ‘Great’ and ‘via Phone’, as well as who was the person who initiated the catch up.
Pastoral care is a pillar of a Christian community and as much as I want to share this app to help community leaders in their ministries and professional life, I am more struck with its need for our own personal friendships.
Of course, I do not want to give the allusion that this app is a ‘fix it’ solution to maintaining healthy relationships.
Rather, this app is for your own personal use, giving space to help reflect on your own friendships, important relationships and a chance to offer a rhythm of connection.
