Reportable conduct explained
Reportable conduct can a tricky thing to get our heads around, but it’s an important way Victoria and Tasmania are keeping children safer. It’s a way of ensuring the people who are doing work for the Church are safe people.
So, what is reportable conduct? We are required to report any allegation of harm done to a child by any past or present volunteer or employee of the Church. These concerns could be historical or current.
What happens when something is reported as Reportable Conduct? There is an investigation by the Culture of Safety team at the Synod who will report the investigation and findings to the relevant agency. This is about finding out if the conduct did happen or not.
Does this mean anyone who has been investigated is unsafe? No. We often put in a safety plan when investigating, but the investigation is about finding out the truth, not about finding someone guilty or getting anyone in trouble. We want to make sure everyone is treated fairly and is safe.
Remember if you have any concerns or questions, you can always contact the team at The Culture of Safety. We are always happy to have a chat and answer any questions.
Wishing you all a safe, joyful Easter.
