Benefits of ministry supervision
By Nia Lavaki
What is ministry supervision? How does ministry supervision help me?
These were questions I asked myself and those around me when I was first told about ministry supervision.
At first I was a bit offended into why I was told to have supervision. Was something wrong with me? Did others around me think I was incompetent?
After my first session my whole mindset had changed and I regretted not attending a ministry supervision session earlier.
In the VIC/TAS Synod Professional Ministry information package it states that ‘it is a space, time, activity and opportunity where, in the context of a supportive relationship, ministry agents and leaders are enabled to reflect on and learn from their ministry and ministry experiences’.
If you are in any leadership role in your church I recommend having supervision with a professional or someone who you connect with like your minister or mentor.
This is a great tool to use for our own mental wellbeing.
Speaking to someone about your role/work and sharing deep parts of your ministry seems daunting but it will be a decision you will never regret.
