Committees & Task Groups
Presbytery Committees
The Presbytery of Gippsland currently has committees that carry out the work of the Presbytery between Presbytery-in-Council Meetings. Nominations for committees, full lists of members and terms are presented to the Presbytery in August each year and are elected in November. Presbytery Committees report to the Presbytery in Council.
- The Standing Committeedeals with maters referred to it from the Presbytery and any matters which arise between meetings of the Presbytery-in-Council which are of an urgent or executive nature.
- The Pastoral Relations Committeehas responsibility for pastoral care and relational oversight of all those in ministry placements and for relational oversight of all Parishes/Clusters. It also deals with all aspects of applications for Minister of the Word or other ministry positions and has oversight of all candidates to such positions.
- The Presbytery Property Committeedeals with all matters related to property. Any queries relating to Property should be addressed to PM Admin in the first instance. Congregations considering applying to sell, build, lease or buy property should also refer to PM Admin as a first step. Most property matters (other than minor maintenance works) require Presbytery approval. The Property Committee considers these and forwards to the Synod Property Applications Review Team (PART) with recommendations. The Property Committee may also deal with matters referred to it by Synod or the Presbytery.
- The Education Committeehelps people across the Presbytery access a range of education and training opportunities. These may be available in the Presbytery or elsewhere. It works in conjunction with the Lay Preacher network, PRC, CTM and others.
- The Nominations Committeeis responsible for seeking and collecting nominations for various positions as required by the Presbytery. It may also suggest names for people to serve on Synod committees.
Presbytery Task Groups
Task groups are usually sub-committees of Presbytery Committees designed to carry out specific tasks.
- The applicants and candidates task groupis a task group of the Pastoral Relations Committee (PRC). Its role is to deal with all matters relating to those who apply for ministry and those who are accepted as candidates.
