Special guest for opening

A theologian who has taught and lectured in numerous countries will be the special guest when Pilgrim Theological College’s academic year begins on February 18.

Rev Dr Sathianathan Clarke will present the Commencement Lecture as part of a Ministry and Mission Day at the Centre for Theology and Ministry .

Proceedings will begin with a Welcome to Country smoking ceremony, before a Worship Service led by Moderator Rev David Fotheringham, and the Commencement Lecture from Sathi.

Sathi is Lecturer in Theology and Mission at United Theological College in North Parramatta, and a Presbyter of the Church of South India.

He bridges the world between establishment and the marginalised, the global and the local, and academy and the congregation.

He has taught and lectured on global Christianity, contextual theology, postcolonial mission, and interreligious dialogue in India, the USA, the UK, Germany, Sri Lanka, Korea, South Africa, and Liberia.

In his research and teaching, Sathi has cultivated specialties in contextual theology, constructive global theology, and theology of religions.

From 1996-2004 he was on the faculty at United Theological College in Bangalore.

He has also been visiting professor at Harvard Divinity School and, for the last 20 years, the Bishop Sundo Kim Chair in World Christianity and Professor of Theology, Culture and Mission at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC, a chair Sathi continues to hold in conjunction with his appointment at UTC.
