Wesley Place
The principal office of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania is now housed at Wesley Place in Melbourne’s CBD.
The remarkable 35-storey office complex, situated at 130 Lonsdale St, was constructed on land owned by the Uniting Church, on and around the 162-year-old Wesley Church.
A partnership arrangement with developer Charter Hall means the site has not been sold, rather it is being leased from the Uniting Church for 125 years, assuring the Church’s future as a place of worship and community gathering for perpetuity.
The Wesley Place development includes a comprehensive and sympathetic restoration of the bluestone Wesley Church and outbuildings, including the Manse, Caretaker’s Cottage, Schoolhouse and Nicholas Hall. Together, these have been described as “one of the finest examples of in-tact neo-gothic architecture in Melbourne”.
Significantly, the move to Wesley Place has also brought together the Uniting Church Synod office and all of the UCA’s agencies (Uniting VicTas, Uniting AgeWell, U Ethical) under one roof for the first time.
- Synod Ministries and Operations: Level 2
- Uniting Victoria and Tasmania: Level 4
- Uniting AgeWell: Level 6
- U Ethical: Level 6
The refurbishment of the site at ground level has provided a revitalised precinct with contemplative spaces, sections for communal activities, and cafes and dining areas.
