A number of Uniting Church members throughout Victoria, and formerly Tasmania, have been recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List, announced earlier today.
The late James (Jim) Macklin Pfeiffer from Brighton was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to education and to the Uniting Church in Australia.
Jim was a member of the Synod’s Standing Committee, member of the Governance Committee and Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee.
He was also Chairperson of Wesley Mission from 2004-10, and an Elder of St Leonard’s Uniting Church in Brighton Beach.
Also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia was Elizabeth Carmyl Winkler from Benalla.
Elizabeth was recognised for her volunteer work on a number of Uniting Church projects in Benalla, and as a volunteer for over 70 years with the Methodist and Uniting churches.
She was also a contributor to state and national Uniting Church publications for 40 years.
St David’s Albury congregation member Lance Boswell was also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to the Uniting Church and a range of community and sporting organisations in Albury.
Lance was former Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer and member of the Church Council, and Chairperson of the church fair’s organising committee.
Former Uniting Church member in Tasmania Carolyn Joy Kitto, now based in New South Wales, was also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Carolyn has been active in youth ministry, justice and advocacy work over many years.
