Child safety changes outlined
Victorian updates to Working With Children checks and Reportable Conduct
In response to some significant concerns raised over the last year there has been some big changes in the way child safeguarding is being managed in Victoria.
The first big change is that Reportable Conduct is now being overseen by the Social Services Register (SSR). This change has meant there is clearer information sharing between the regulator and the team that manages the WWCC cards.
What does this mean for our congregations? We need to make sure that our WWCC’s are all up to date, and that our volunteers are including both the local congregation and the Synod as a place of work. This makes sure we can support if for any reason a card is suspended or removed.
In the future there will be mandatory training built into the application process for WWCC, however this will NOT replace our need for training.
Please reach out if you have any questions about Working With Children checks or the upcoming changes.
