Sean to step down at Pilgrim

The Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, Uniting Church in Australia, has sadly received the resignation of Rev Associate Professor Sean Winter from the role of Head of College, Pilgrim Theological College, as at November 30, 2024.

Sean takes up the role of Dean of Research and Director of New Testament Studies at Whitley College, commencing on December 1, 2024.

Sean, with his family, moved from the UK to Melbourne in 2009, for him to assume the role of New Testament Lecturer with the Uniting Church, as part of the United Faculty of Theology.

He was instrumental in the establishment of Pilgrim Theological College in 2015, and commenced as its Head of College in 2017.

Duncan Macleod, Executive Officer – eLM, said, “The VicTas Synod is grateful for Sean’s faithfulness, pastoral sensitivity and leadership of the faculty and the work of Pilgrim College in general. Sean’s visionary and strategic leadership was crucial in the early stages of Pilgrim establishing itself as a theological college within the University of Divinity. Sean has effectively represented Pilgrim Theological College in the University of Divinity, UCA’s Standards for Ministry Committee and the wider Uniting Church and other churches. Sean’s theological and biblical reflections have inspired and grounded meetings of the Synod and many other parts of the Uniting Church.”

The Synod has now called for applications for the Head of College role, with an expectation that a new appointment will commence in early 2025.

A farewell for Sean will be held in November.
