Check, mate, on safety

Is your WWWCC/WVP check up to date?

Whether you’re snuggled up in Tasmania with the devils, dodging trams in Victoria, or sipping coffee in a hidden NSW Synod nook, if you’re an Appointed Leader, you’ll need a Working with Children Check (WWCC) or Working with Vulnerable People Check (WVP). This isn’t a pop quiz, but let’s do a quick memory sprint, especially about syncing your card with the Synod.

A WWCC/WVP isn’t just a fancy acronym, it’s your golden ticket to Appointed Leadership land, and we cast a wide net to catch all kinds of fish in the leader sea – for the nitty-gritty, dive into the policy ocean on our website. Clutching a WWCC/WVP is woven into our very fabric as a Safe Church, forever poised to mingle with the young ‘uns and be the superhero neighbour we all need.

Introducing Joan, the veteran Appointed Leader at the fictional UCA congregation. Her WWCC/WVP is on the brink of expiration, and there’s Elijah, the rookie leader, sporting his trusty WWCC/WVP. Joan, ever the meticulous one, follows her state’s process to the letter, ensuring her card is linked with the precision of a Swiss watch:

Joan’s approach to life is like a one-hit wonder – she nails it the first time. Along with her Appointed Leader duties, she’s the queen of the kids’ soccer club, the school P&F, and every other colour in her kaleidoscope of city life – she adds all these to her application.

Elijah, already equipped with a WWCC/WVP, realises that with great power comes great responsibility – he needs to attach the Synod to his card. After a digital odyssey on the WWCC/WVP website, he updates this   profile and adds:

AND

Then, they play the waiting waltz with the postal service. When the card finally parachutes into her mailbox, Joan stashes it like a treasure, ready to flash it at her WWCC/WVP guru. To her glee, upon her arrival, she discovers they’ve already rolled out the red carpet for her and Elijah. “Easy peasy,” chirps the cheery WWCC/WVP guru, “We got a copy of letters as well and I’ve updated you both in the system.”

Job done for another five years. Thanks Joan, Elijah and WWCC/WVP guru – working together to make the Synod safe for everyone to encounter God.

If you for whatever reason you, aren’t able to be like Joan or Elijah, we are able to assist, either contact your WWCC/WVP guru or email our unit on [email protected]
