Culture of Safety Unit’s role
As a Synod, we affirm our commitment to the following:
- Every child involved in the Uniting Church’s activities, services, events, or programs has the right to feel and be safe. We are dedicated to providing environments where children are cared for, respected, nurtured, and sustained.
- We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of child abuse and will exert every effort to protect children from harm.
- The Church is devoted to establishing and preserving a child-safe culture, ensuring the care, protection, and safety of all children participating in any Church entity.
- Secrecy allows abuse to flourish. To counteract this, we pledge to offer decisive leadership and transparent governance to eliminate secrecy.
- The Church firmly upholds its commitment to the law, including the obligation to report abuse to the proper authorities.
We are dedicated to the cultural safety of all First Nations people, including children and young people.
Our website provides resources and policies are compliant with the Child Safe Standard (Victoria) and Child and Youth Safe Standards (Tasmania), including details on registering for Safe Church Training.
