‘A path is made by walking it’ is an ancient Chinese saying which affirms the process of change in society. It states the need for individual purpose and collective action in bringing about political and social change – in this case for a mine-free world.

This book is a collection of essays by people who have taken steps on that path as part of the Australian Network to Ban Landmines, and by colleagues who have worked with them as part of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). Their reflections on the process shed light on the walking of other paths of sound advocacy and effective political action.
