Central Stipends and Payroll Services

Accounting Services acts as a Payroll Bureau on behalf of Presbyteries, congregations and agencies, on a fee per employee basis.

The centralised stipends payroll service will:

  • Pay stipends and wages on a fortnightly basis
  • Provide pay slips to all employees via email or regular mail
  • Administer Minister’s Benefit Accounts (MBA’s)
  • Remit PAYG tax to the Australian Taxation Office
  • Remit Beneficiary Fund payments
  • Remit other superannuation contributions (i.e. Lay Staff)
  • Provide Payment Summaries
  • Provide reports for the employer.  Salary figures are included on Synod BAS Statement.

As mentioned above, the service is available on a fee per employee basis.

Payroll Fee on the 1st of January 2023 – $27.50 per employee per month (no increase in 2023)

Commencement of modern awards

When you employ staff you will need to identify the appropriate modern award which will set the minimum employments standards.  You will also need to provide the employee with a copy of the National Employment Standards (NES).

Although awards commenced on 1st January 2010, many contain transitional arrangements which phase-in changes in wages, loadings and penalty rates over a five-year period.  If you are unsure which award is appropriate please contact People & Culture on 9116 1400.

Fair Work Australia – National Employment Standards

The National Employment Standards (NES) are set out in the Fair Work Act 2009 and comprise of 10 minimum standards of employment.  This list should be given to all new staff members and can be found at the following link:

Note that a wage increase applies to employment Awards on 1 July each year and some awards have additional increases at other times of the year.  Please check the Fair Work website for further information or contact People & Culture for further advice on 9116 1400.
