Understanding the Lay Preacher Code of Ethics

Understanding the Lay Preacher Code of Ethics is designed to help those training for Lay Preaching better understand the “Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice for Lay Preachers”. Being able to understand and work within this Code of Ethics is one of the Core Competencies expected of Lay Preachers by the UCA Assembly.

This unit will reflect on and discuss various elements of the “Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice for Lay Preachers”, including:

  • the role of Lay Preaching in the UCA and the call to Lay Preaching
  • use of power
  • responsibility given by the UCA to Lay Preachers
  • working with others
  • respect for others
  • exercising of ministry
  • exercising of leadership
  • professional conduct
  • competence and continuing education
  • self-care and supervision
  • breaches of the Code of Ethics
  • pastoral responsibilities

 

Understanding the Lay Preacher Code of Ethics  will be offered in 2025 through access to online learning materials and a Zoom class.
