Understanding the UCA
The Understanding the UCA Unit has been created around the Core Competency “Work within the doctrine, ethos and polity of the Uniting Church” from the ‘Assembly Standards and Competencies for the Formation and Education for the Specified Ministry of Lay Preacher’ and UCA Assembly’s Standards for the Ministry if Pastor: Core Competencies’.
Written in a conversational style, the unit tells the story of the UCA through its key documents, decisions, and videos.
Understanding the UCA covers:
- History of the formation of UCA
- Theological foundations of the Basis of Union, and the role of the Basis of Union in the UCA
- The place and role of key aspects of the Church’s life and witness
- Understanding the Councils and Ministries of the UCA
- Understanding the UCA’s commitment to First Nations People and Intercultural Ministry
- Act2
Participants are given 4 months to complete the unit. Those undertaking Understanding the UCA for assessment purposes, must attend the 4 set tutorials and submit the given assessment. Those not undertaking assessment are welcome to attend the tutorials, where the discussions are usually lively and interesting!
In 2025, Understanding the UCA will be offered:
- 25 Feb to 30 June
- 5 August to 17 Nov
