Ministry Placements

The Placements Committee (Advisory Committee on Ministerial Placements) is responsible for the oversight of processes that enable the placement of ministers and others in particular specified ministries.

Membership includes two representatives of each presbytery, along with a number of ex-officio members and others co-opted to achieve an appropriate balance.

Advice on placement processes can be accessed from the Protocols, Policies and Guidelines for Placements Committee document below.

Each month, the Placements Committee considers ministry needs across the Synod. The Committee provides opportunities for ministers, congregations, agencies and schools to engage in discernment around being in ministry together.

Information about current and pending placements – and profiles that have been received are available below. Expressions of interest in ministry placements from ministers and lay people are welcome and need to be submitted with an up-to-date ministry profile form.

  • Ministers are encouraged to refresh their ministry profiles every five years. This provides an opportunity for reflection on ministry practice and a chance to consider future ministry directions – either in the current placement or a new one. A Ministry profile form (updated in 2024) can be downloaded below. Completed ministry profiles should be sent to your Presbytery’s PRC (Pastoral Relations Committee) for the Presbytery comments page to be completed. The PRC will share their comments with you and ask you to sign the profile before the PRC forwards a copy to the Placements Committee.
  • Lay People interested in a ministry placement can be appointed as a pastor in placement. Each placement profile will indicate if it is a suitable ministry for a pastor. If you are interested in one of these placements, please contact your Presbytery’s PRC (Pastoral Relations Committee). If you have been a pastor in a ministry role previously, your PRC will be able to offer advice as to any further requirements.  If you have not been a pastor in placement previously, they will assist with processes for assessing your suitability to be a pastor in placement.  To be considered by the Placements Committee, Lay People need to offer an expression interest in a specific placement, provide a completed (with presbytery comments) Lay Ministry Profile form (available below) and have the support of their Presbytery that they are suitable to serve as a pastor in a ministry placement.
